Kia L. currently rents a home, sharing it with her 16-year-old daughter and her two boys; aged 22 and 15.

Kia was initially approached by another Habitat Homeowner about joining our program. At the time, Kia put it off. “I had all these ideas how my life was going to go.” But, Kia eventually realized something had to change. Rent was skyrocketing. Her rental had moldy windows—a treacherous condition for her asthmatic daughter. When her refrigerator went out, it wasn’t replaced for a week, leaving her to buy ice every day to keep her family’s food stored in coolers. Kia was ready for a change and contacted Wicomico Habitat.
