Habitat for Humanity Program

AmeriCorps

AmeriCorps provides an opportunity for individuals to serve full-time with Habitat for Humanity to help meet the housing needs of communities and families throughout the United States.

Program Overview

What does this program do?

AmeriCorps is the federal agency connecting individuals and organizations to tackle the nation’s most pressing challenges. AmeriCorps focuses on these key areas to make an impact: economic opportunity, disaster response, education, environmental stewardship, healthy futures, and veterans and military families.

What does this program do?

Habitat for Humanity International receives funding from AmeriCorps to support the Habitat AmeriCorps program.

Habitat AmeriCorps is part of the growing national service movement. In partnership with Habitat organizations throughout the U.S., our program places AmeriCorps members to serve in the field and in the office to build and repair homes, expand housing services and engage the community. A service term with Habitat provides hands-on nonprofit experience that allows members to learn and develop lifelong skills and confidence. Our members serve a critical role in helping Habitat homeowners achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build a better future for themselves and their families.

Learn what benefits are available through service with Habitat AmeriCorps, including a post-service award for student loans or educational expenses. You can also read stories of those whose lives were transformed through this unique and rewarding experience.

Application Process

To join Habitat AmeriCorps, an applicant must be a U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident at least 18 or older and have a high school diploma or GED. There may be additional requirements that will be noted on each individual posting.

Opportunities to serve are available year-round in most states throughout the U.S.

We have Habitat organizations with a critical need for AmeriCorps members. You can apply to serve where you are needed the most.

Application process

  • Search open positions, apply for 4-5 openings and include your resume with each application.
  • If qualified, you will interview with staff from the local Habitat organization.
  • If selected, accept the verbal offer and complete the pre-enrollment requirements.
  • Begin service with your local Habitat organization.
  • For questions about our program, email habitatamericorps@habitat.org.

Program Eligibility

The minimum age requirement for most AmeriCorps programs is 18. However, some accept applications from 16-17-year-olds.
