Critical Home Repair Program

The Critical Home Repair Program by Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County is a need-based loan program for low-income homeowners. Homeowners are encouraged to apply and are served on a first come first served basis.

Who this program helps the most

Eligibility Criteria: Our program is available to:

  • Homeowners residing in Wicomico or Somerset Counties.
  • Individuals struggling with critical home repairs that pose a threat to safety and/or health.
  • Households meeting income guidelines and demonstrating a financial need.
  • Home being repaired must be homeowner occupied.

What does this program do?

Making a Difference Together:

  • Affordable Solutions: We work to make repairs affordable, offering subsidized costs based on income and, in some cases, no-cost repairs for the most vulnerable applicants.
  • Long-Term Impact: Beyond immediate repair, we aim to improve the overall living conditions, health, and safety of families served.

For this program, if the applicant is qualified and funding is available, the applicant can offered available grants,  a 0% or low-interest loan, or a combination of both. Local contractors are hired by the applicant/client do to any work required.

Application Process

How to Apply:

  1. Initial Inquiry: Contact Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County to express your interest and verify your preliminary eligibility.
  2. Formal Application: Complete the detailed application process, including providing necessary financial documents and proof of homeownership.
  3. Assessment: A home visit will be conducted to assess the scope of work required.
  4. Approval and Repair: If approved, repairs will be scheduled based on funding availability, urgency of need, and weather conditions.
