About the Women Build Program

Empowering Communities Through Female-Led Construction

Empowerment Through Construction

Women Build, a pioneering initiative by Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County, invites women to take a proactive step towards community service through construction. This program is designed for women eager to learn construction skills to help build homes, with no prior experience required. Under the professional guidance of construction experts, volunteers work alongside future Habitat homeowners and other volunteers, fostering a collaborative and enriching environment. Women Build is not just about construction; it’s a platform for learning, empowerment, and community improvement.

Inclusive and Collaborative

The program emphasizes inclusivity and collaboration, welcoming individuals of all sex and gender identities to participate. It's a fantastic opportunity to involve friends and family in meaningful work with a lasting impact or to come alone and forge new friendships. The atmosphere is supportive, friendly, and focused on women helping women, sending a powerful message of solidarity and strength.

Sponsorship and Support

With construction costs averaging $2,000 per day, Women Build relies on the generosity of sponsors to continue its mission. Sponsorship not only provides essential funds for construction materials but also offers recognition for businesses and individuals who contribute.

Become a Women Build Sponsor

It costs an average of $2,000 for one day of construction. With rising costs, your help is needed now, more than ever. Sponsorship of a Women Build brings multiple areas of recognition for you and your business, as well as the sense of satisfaction of knowing that every dollar raised goes directly to purchasing construction materials for hardworking families in need.

Each Women Build sponsorship team may send volunteers to help build on our construction site (date to be agreed upon by sponsor and our volunteer coordinator). No construction experience is necessary. We will train and provide all safety equipment and tools.

Sponsorship Levels

Build Day Sponsor - $5,000

Featured logo placement on construction lot sign; prayer and speaking opportunity at home blessing; 20 Women Build tee shirts; build day with 20 volunteers (broken into four shifts of 5) and lunch; recognition in home blessing program, on social media, website logo recognition, and select press

Doors Sponsor - $2,500

Logo placement on construction lot sign; speaking opportunity at home blessing; build day with 10 volunteers (broken into two shifts of 5); 10 Women Build tee shirts; recognition in home blessing program, collective social media recognition post; website logo recognition.

Hammer & Nails Sponsor - $1,000

Name placement on construction lot sign; build day with 5 volunteers; 5 Women Build tee shirts; recognition at home blessing; build day with 5 volunteers; collective social media recognition post; website name recognition

Build Day Participant - $25

Each individual participant receives a Women Build tee shirt and the opportunity to build on a construction site. We will provide safety equipment and training.

Meet Mildred Spence

45 years ago Mildred moved her four children into a home she purchased as-is. In between her three jobs, she began the process of repairing her home. As time passed, Mildred began to lose the ability to complete the repairs herself, and hiring contractors was financially out of reach. Mildred needed help.
