Wicomico Habitat Hosts a Stud Decorating Contest

December 16, 2020

Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County is hosting a “Stud-a-Thon” stud decorating contest to help offset the costs of the interior framing of their latest Habitat Home.

The cost of lumber has skyrocketed in recent months, leaving the nonprofit organization to raise more funds to finish a home. According to an article in

by ABC 5 in Cleveland, a 2x4x8 stud was priced wholesale at $1.60 March, while in September, that same board cost nearly $5.

Participants are asked to purchase a 2” x 4” x 92 5/8” stud from their local hardware retailer and decorate it with paint, ink, or markers. Artwork, messages of support to the new homeowners, scripture, or poetry is welcome. No cuts or attachments to the board are allowed for the safety of the construction team and the structural integrity of the board.

“Throughout COVID-19, we have been searching for new and meaningful ways to engage with our supporters, and what better way to do that than by giving them the opportunity to have their blessings physically placed in a Habitat Home for a new homeowner family?” said Molly Hilligoss,  Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County Executive Director.

Completed boards should be delivered to the Habitat ReStore at 908 W. Isabella street in Salisbury by January 15. The artist of the board judged most creative will receive a $25 ReStore gift card.
